Yellow and white lines

ICBC's driving guide: Signs, signals and road markings

One rule sorts every line on the road: yellow separates opposing traffic, white separates traffic going the same way. If there is a yellow line to your left, someone is coming towards you on the other side of it.

Yellow:

  • Broken — passing is allowed when safe.
  • Broken beside solid — you may pass only when it is safe and the broken line is on your side.
